HOW

FAQ

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY STUDENT NEEDS COACHING?

Our coaching team has found that most high school students simply have not been given opportunities to practice the executive functioning skills necessary to be successful in a college environment.  In fact, high achieving, student athletes in high school tend to struggle in the first year of college due to the unstructured nature and increased academic rigor of college. Most academically capable high school students can still struggle with some level of executive functioning weakness. Our coaching sessions focus on holistic success (beyond academics) and teach students to apply EF skills to structure their daily schedule on weekdays and weekends as well as improve their ability to manage their responsibilities at home as well.

HOW OFTEN WILL MY STUDENT MEET WITH A COACH?

Our Masters Degree level coaches will provide expert support in a schedule that is customized to your student's learning needs. Typically, high school students meet 1x week for 30-45 minutes. In the summer and during the first year of college, support can increase to 2x week or 3x week. There is no 'typical' meeting schedule as each student's brain is unique. We work with parents and your student to identify a meeting schedule that creates consistency but is not overwhelming.

WHO ARE YOUR COACHES?

Our coaches all have a Masters Degree or higher with multiple years of experience in full-time education roles in either high school or college. May coaches are currently working in learning support roles in Accessibility Offices at a college/university. Many coaches also have teaching experience as adjunct faculty, academic advisors and career counselors with both undergraduate and graduate students. Our coaches engage in ongoing professional development training.

MY STUDENT'S SCHEDULE IS BUSY - CAN THEY STUDENT START WORKING WITH A COACH AFTER GRADUATION?

Absolutely! The summer is a perfect time to begin working with a coach.  Students will be guided by an experienced coach who prepares your student for the academic, social & executive functioning issues and challenges that your new college student may encounter. Especially helpful for first-generation students, our support includes reminders to check college email consistently during the summer months, online learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.), organization and planning of homework assignments as well as management of unstructured time.
