Coaching For Students With Executive Functioning Challenges

Support is Ideal For:

  • Students who previously attended small, supportive k-12 schools and would like support to navigate learning, social and disability systems in college

  • Homeschooled students who may be nervous about the accommodation and disability support process in college

  • Students with previous 504/IEP who would like guidance on how/when to ask for help in higher education, recommendations for appropriate accommodations, guidance in navigating learning & disability supports in higher education

  • Students with a learning disability and executive functioning challenges

Coaching Includes:

  • Virtual meetings via Zoom (1-3x per week)

  • Test/email reminder to student before coaching session

  • Email, phone and text communication with parents as needed (minimum of 1x week included with all coaching sessions)

  • Access to drop-in small group study hall sessions held each week

Strategies May Include:

  • Reminding student to regularly check college email account

  • Reminding student to regularly check college / university learning management system (Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, etc.)

  • Time management utilizing student's cell phone, alarms, reminders, schedules, planners and software apps

  • Create daily schedule for homework completion

  • Create weekly and monthly schedules to support long-term planning and scheduling

  • Identify and utilize tools to support organization of papers, binders & electronic files (Google Drive and desktop folders)

  • Build and practice study skills and test preparation

  • Decrease procrastination 

  • Increase task initiation

  • Connect with Accessibility Office to request accommodations

  • Connect with campus academic supports such as writing center tutoring center, Academic Advisor, etc.

  • Role playing conversations with professors and other campus staff

  • Connect with campus mental health supports such as counseling center, Accessibility Office, etc.

  • Create productivity habits that will lead to success whether learning on campus or virtually at home
